My Goals For Term 4

This term I want to get at least one more badge on my sleeve, I also want to get a principles certificate.  I would like to get something in shine like respect or honesty a second time.  I want to complete some magazine reports so I can be acknowledged for writing something in the school magazine.  Another goal is to pass my flute exam  so I can move onto the second flute book and become a senior flute player.  I want to focus on my school work better and hand my work in on time.

Term 3 Week 7

This week in tech arts we have started science, where we learned about P.O.E.W.  Which stands for Predict, observe, explain, and what if.  On the first lesson we learned about circuits and how they work, using UFO balls.  On the second lesson we lit teabags to help us learn how to do a P.O.E.W properly.   We also learned that fire needs three sources to stay lit, fuel, oxygen, and heat.  On Thursday at band Mr Stanbridge made me play my competition piece, which is Minuet.  I have learned to play a new piece called Fireworks by Katy Perry, and also how to play Pirates Of The Caribbean.  I finished my film review on WALL-E, and I think that it was pretty good.

Week 4 Term 3

This week in tech arts I have finished my pillow, and am now making a bag and a mouse.  The bag has the same design as my pillow, it has a mustache and a pair of glasses, with a blue background.  My mouse is gray with black ears and a black tail.  I received my certificate for the ICAS science test and got merit, and better than 45% of the year seven students that sat the test.  For maths we took two tests one for geometry and one for angles, area, perimeter and volume.

term 3 week 3

This week I stitched my pillow case together, all I need to do is trim the edges and flip it the right way around.  It has a picture of glasses and a mustache on it, they are painted black and the background is dark blue.  In french we learned how to say things around the class and how to say some colours.  We had a session with St Johns ASB first aid class.  We learned how to place people in the recovery position and how to perform CPR and mouth to mouth on a mannequin.

term 3 week 2

This week at tech I have made my pencil case, it is 30 by 34.  It is made of a baby blue fabric with the same colour zip.  I have started making my pillow it's going to have a mustache and a pair of glasses on it.  I have entered a competition for flute, I am going to play minuet.  I am going to play in the band at Murray's Bay.

Term 3 Week 1

This week we have started soft materials,  I have made my first tennis ball out of polar fleece and now I am making a second one.  We will also make a pillow case, a bag, and many more things.  In french we have learned how to count to 20 and how to say and ask how old someone is.  We have done a test on area and geometry, I got 17 out of 33, but I had never been thought most of that stuff so it's okay.  I have almost finished my term three speech, it is about why speeches should be optional.  We had the principle but I'm glad we have Mrs Crowe back now.  I shared my visual art presentation with the class, it was about a girl called Dora Rivkina during the Holocaust.  I am two bands away from my bronze badge, all I need is my excellence band and  my include others band to get it.

Term 2 week 9

This week I started to make a box out of perspects, all I need to do to finish it is to make a latch for it.  We have one more session to finish any thing off on Wednesday in week 10.  In my flute lessons we are learning how to play in a trio, we have to practice a piece that our teacher has given us, next week on Tuesday we will have to play the trio and get marked out of ten.  In class we have learned about ratios, and how to convert them into fractions.  We have also have learned how to change fractions into percentages, you have to turn the fraction into a decimal then multiply it by ten.  For Friday sport I am doing soccer, we tied in both games we played.

Week 8 Term 2

This week in tech arts I finished my letter , it has blue LED lights on it and a square base.  I made two key rings one was just a circle with my name engraved on it, and the other was a diamond.  I started to make a cube that has a hinge to open the lid and a latch that would keep it closed.  We learned how to add and subtract fractions by making the denominators equivalent, we also learned how to multiply and divide them.  I finished my argument writing on helmets, and have almost finished my Holocaust book review.  I have started to make my visual presentation for the Holocaust, I am doing an individual and her name is Dora Rivkina, I'm going to make a box and put things in it that she might keep.

Term 2 Week 6

This wee we started on our letters with LED lights on them, I am doing a B.  We have to cut out the letter on a piece on wood, arrange the LED lights and soldier them on.  Then we have to connect the wires, make a switch and glue it on to the base.  We also learned more about decimals like multiplying and dividing using algorithms.  In band we have learned hoe to play rolling in the deep and a song called sway.

Week 3 reflection

This week we had music camp we played a variety of songs including aura lee, power rock and Ode to joy.  Two other schools came and performed in band with us, Cambridge middle school and Matamata.  Choir sang a couple of songs and some were combined with senior band including I will follow him and hang on sloopy.  We also started a new tech arts which is wood work, we are going to make a circuit for a LED light to run on, we are also going to make a letter with LED lights on it.

Week 1 reflection and term 2 goals

Week one for term two was a good kick start for the term.  We had to do pubertal change, no one enjoyed that.  For tech arts we are still in art, we have painted our clay work and have sent it off to be fired again, we are painting our koru designs that are so post to represent our family, I got green paint all over my shirt.  We learned how to make rules for patterns in algebra.  We have written letters to the editor, but we didn't send them.  Some of my goals for term two are, to be in the Epro 8 challenge, to earn at least two more bands and to become a senior in band.  I hope that this term is as good as the last one.

Term 1 Reflections

This term was my first term at intermediate, this was a time to do all the testing that was required, to settle in and get to know everybody.  I think I have settled in pretty well, I have made lots of new friends and learned lots of new things.  This term we had a disco, lots of assemblies, our first camp and I achieved my first shine band for respect.  Our first tech art subject was music.  We learnt how to read notes, play some tunes on the keyboard some notes on the ukulele, play the drums and compose our own song.  We have learned lots in maths, writhing and reading.  I have auditioned for production, but I am not a callback.  Now our tech art subject is art, we have made koru designs out of clay, first we had to think of a design and sketch it out, next we moulded it out of clay, then we sent them of to be fired.  After that we made triangles and blended with pastel, we put a koru design on one of them and put news paper print on the other.  Now we are making koru designs that resemble our family.  This term I have been playing the flute, I really enjoy it and will carry on next term.  I also contribute to the school symphonic band.  This term was really good let's hope next term is just as good.

Wellington

Last week we were in Wellington.  We had a lot of once in a life time experiences, we got to touch some things that were used in real movies at Weta Workshops. We learnt how they designed, molded and painted the props for many movies.  We got to speak to someone that experienced the Holocaust at The Holocaust center. Her name was Vera, she was a child when the Holocaust began.  Her family suddenly started disappearing one day, until she was taken too.  We did a play called Once upon a crime in the ONTV studio at capital E.  We also learnt how to make apps there, one was called Hello Purr.  We went to a water park at Upper Hutt called H2o xtreme, there are water slides and a wave pool.  We went snorkeling at a reserve in Island bay, we had to wear wet suits, hoods and flippers.  At Parliament we met Andrew Little, learned what speakers do and what everybody's jobs are.

Term One Week Five

This week I had my first session of robotics, we learned about bits.  Bits are the little things inside computer that store the data.  There are zeros, ones, twos, and it keeps doubling.  In my flute lessons we learned a lot more notes like b flat, c, and many more.  We had to practice playing a song for our homework.  In tech arts we had to make up a rap about healthy living, then we had to combine it with a garage band song that we made up.  We had to do our explanation writing, I'm about half way through.  We had swimming sports, but I was sick so I don't know much about it.

Week 4 Term 1

This week I learned how to do powers properly, I got all the answers right.  I also learned about significant figures, if there is 1 significant figure in the number 3487 it would be 3000.  At  my Tuesday afternoon flute classes i learned how to place my fingers, how to play an "a", and a "b".  One of my goals is to be in the school production. In tech arts we learned how to read music and how to play some tunes on the keyboard/piano.

Term 1 Week 3

This week we did astle writing, my topic was music is more important than sport.  One of my reasons were music helps your body relax.  We learnt about growth mindset and fixed mindset, growth mind set is where you tell your self you can do it or you can't do it yet, fixed mindset is where you tell yourself you can't do it, or you suck at something. We also learnt how to play softball properly.
